Bustlepunk, Anyone?

I've been looking forward to M.K. Hobson's debut novel, The Native Star, for months now.  An alternate-history fantasy set in 19th-century America with witches, warlocks, and love spells gone awry?  Yes, please!

Today Dear Author has a special treat--an interview with Hobson, where she discusses her inspiration, research, and worldbuilding.  My favorite part?  Her six-word memoir for her protagonist, Emily Edwards:

If only I'd used less lavender!

Comparisons are already abounding between Hobson's work and Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series, not to mention Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.  I can't wait to dive in!
