For those of you not slaving away at the keyboard, I suggest you wander over to the nearest Barnes & Noble and check out their sale aisle. Why? If you're lucky, you'll find a copy of Fashion: The Collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute at the bargain price of $19.98.

I've been lusting after just such a book ever since I saw an earlier publication of the Kyoto Costume Institute's collection, Revolution in Fashion: European Clothing, 1715-1815. Sadly, that book has long since been out of print (it was published in 1990), and the price for a used copy is simply beyond my budget.

This new edition--published in 2006--is gorgeous, with over 700 pages of illustrations, many of them full-color photographs. As one of the reviewers at www.barnesandnoble.com observed, it's "a fantastic visual tool for those who like to 'read or write' historical romance novels or literature."

So if you need to dress your 18th-, 19th-, or 20th-century heroine--this is the reference book for you!
